Creative thinking for More Inclusive Mobility: The Story Behind Modacity Creative

At the start of 2025, I made a big professional leap. After nearly a decade working on my passion projects – books, photo and video campaigns, and speaking events – from the side of my desk, I decided it was finally time to dedicate all my energy to something 100% my own: Modacity Creative.

Envisioned as the culmination of all the diverse work I’ve been doing as an advocate, consultant, and author, I have launched Modacity Creative to give myself freedom to work on projects that inspire me. To no longer be limited by the corporate visions – and budgets – of others, and to have an impact in the world of sustainable, equitable, and inclusive mobility in an way that is authentic to me. The amazing projects I’ve been able to work on up until now have certainly had an impact, but they have always been guided by someone else. It was time to finally work towards a vision of my own.

Three months in to this new construction, the response has been amazing, and I find myself already fortunate to be working on some great initiatives. Looking ahead to the coming months – and hopefully years – I think it may be helpful to explain just what the work of Modacity Creative does looks like, with the hope of inspiring some new collaborations as well!

Telling a good story

In the early 2010s, I started in this space of sustainable mobility as a storyteller, and as such, communications and narrative building will always form the foundation of my work. My vision for Modacity Creative is to work with a variety of organisations around the world, from government staff and officials, advocates, not-profits and NGOs, and private consultancies to help create communications strategies and narratives that support them achieving their sustainable mobility goals. Whether those goals are a changes to the street level, or bold messages that inspire new ways of thinking, leading to actions with positive impact, I am here and ready to support them.

Sharing that story

Few things give me more energy that sharing a story with a room full of people and see on their faces as a new idea or way of thinking sparks inspiration. A subtle nod, a smile, and even sometimes a laugh are such great ways to know your words have resonated with an audience in a positive way. Through Modacity Creative, I work with partners to take a vision, narrative, or goal and craft engaging keynote and plenary presentations or full event and conference moderation that reinforces the work of the organisations I am working with and the core themes of an event.

Creating your own story

As we continue further along this path to sustainable, healthy, accessible mobility and public spaces, the strongest narratives are often the ones crafted by the communities they impact. Facilitating workshops and trainings on topics from user behaviour, communications, the development of pilot projects, and urban planning and design, I can engage directly with local advoctes, business leaders, practitioners and decision-makers to craft a plan that reflects the vision and values of the community. I believe in inspiring change through co-creation and collaboration, building pride and ownership, and often leading to more successful outcomes.

Reshaping the Approach

Through Modacity Creative, I am focused on reshaping the way people think about what a sustainable mobility advisor is. I want to challenge more traditional ways of thinking and collaborate on projects that reflect the diversity of people in our communities and how they move. As the world around us continues to change and evolve, we need to find new and exciting ways to inspire behaviour change that is accessible to everyone and ultimately create global urban vitality.
